How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? (Rom. 6:2).
In college, I had a friend who was well liked and easy-going. He seemed to truly have a close walk with the Lord. After college, he admitted to a homosexual lifestyle and having several partners during college.
As Christians, God has called us to look past the sin, to reach out and love the sinner. It is my personal conviction that gossip, covetousness, and dissension is just as much a sin as homosexuality, adultery, or idolatry. But as Christians we are to flee from sin.
Why would we allow sin to be present in our lives if we are Christians? God has called us out of the darkness of sin into His light of righteousness. Once we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord, we are no longer to be bound by sin in our lives. We will cease our intention to sin. God has taken our sins and cast them into the sea of forgetfulness. Being “dead to sin” gives us freedom in our daily lives – freedom to live fully in the Spirit and freedom from the death to which sin would sentence us.
Lord, give me the wisdom to flee from sin.
