"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star" (Rev. 22:16).
When he was sent to the island of Patmos, John wrote about what Christ revealed to him and sent these messages to the suffering Christians. The messages reminded Christians that God loved them, and he was a keeper of promises. God kept them in the past and would do so in the future.
Today's passage calls to remembrance God's promise that a descendant of David would occupy David's throne forever. Jesus told John He was the root and offspring of David. In our readings this week we have seen God reminding His children repeatedly that the covenant with David would be fulfilled.
What are some of God's fulfilled promises you have experienced? Have you thanked him?
Father, thank You for the glorious gift of Your Son for my salvation, for the fact that He conquered death and provides salvation for all those who believe on Him, and for all the promises He has kept.
