At the end of a fun-filled week at the summer church camp, the sparkling blue water of the swimming pool became the baptistery. Many boys and girls lined up to take their turns wading into the shallow end.
One by one the camp pastor asked each person if they believed that Jesus died for their sin, was buried, rose again and had asked Him to forgive them of their sin. As each individual responded yes, he prayed for and baptized that person.
One young girl came up from under the water rejoicing with tears streaming down her cheeks. This event was a public testimony to me and told all the others observing the change that had taken place in her life. “Jesus is living in me, and I love Him,” she said joyfully.
When we ask Jesus into our hearts, we then receive His Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our salvation. The act of baptism says to those watching that Christ is in me, and I will follow and obey Him.
Father, thank You for the privilege of following Christ in baptism
