The Church: The Family’s Partner

In Teaching
Colossians 3:16-17

16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

All children are home schooled. Oh, I know they usually go from kindergarten through high school in a school system. Still, regarding the passing on of vital Christian values, our children are ultimately home schooled. In these times, teaching our treasured values has been put largely out of the schools. If children are to learn these values they will have to be taught them in a blessed partnership between the home and the church.

The ideal way for children to learn spiritual truth is to hear it proclaimed at church and then watch it demonstrated in the home. Think how bewildering it is for children to hear one way espoused from the pulpit and then to see an opposite way enacted before their eyes at home. Worthy sermons and well-taught Sunday School lessons often are ruthlessly negated by parental actions. Church and home need to be partners in spiritual education.

Lord, help me teach Your Word by putting it into action.
