Relationships: Who Needs Whom?

The Lord offers help
Genesis 4:13-16

Proverbs 1-3 : PM - Romans 15

The LORD said to him, "Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him
(Gen. 4:15)

Think about the things some people do to protect themselves. They put in alarm systems for their homes, get a guard dog with a loud bark, install timers on their house lights so it always looks like someone is at home; and you can probably think of others. These things can give us some peace of mind and a sense of protection against harm.

In today's devotional passage, Cain was scared for his life. He had killed his brother Abel. God's punishment was that he would always wander the earth, unable to settle down and raise crops. Cain felt his punishment was too great and someone would actually try to kill him. God said no one would kill Cain because of a mark that protected him. Though he didn't deserve it, Cain received mercy from God. In spite of the sin he had committed, God offered His protection and help.

Thank You, God, for the assurance You care for me.
