I know a man who had an ancestor that marched in the Lexington alarm on April 19, 1775. That was the day a small band was overwhelmed at Lexington, the British were repulsed at Concord, and snipers harassed them all the way back to Boston. I don’t know what part his ancestor played in the stirring events of that day, but the old records, indicate he fought for freedom throughout the American Revolution. My friend realizes, however, that more important for him than having an ancestor who fought for freedom is that he have in his life a commitment like his ancestor’s.
Some first –century Jews boasted that they were children of Abraham because they were descended from him physically. Paul said the true children of Abraham are people – Jews or Gentiles – who have a faith like Abraham’s.
What a privilege to be among the true children of Abraham!
Lord, help me to have a faith like Abraham’s faith.
