JUSTIFIED BY FAITH
Galatians 2:15-16
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
I once heard of a man who had never flown in an airplane. As the pilot revved the engine for takeoff, he began to flap his arms up and down as if trying to fly. He somehow had the idea that it was necessary for him to help the pilot keep the plane in the air. Finally one of the cabin crew assured him the plane would fly under its own power without his help.
We can no more be saved from sin by our own effort than that man could fly the airplane by flapping his arms! Just as it was necessary for him to cease his own effort and let the plane and the pilot take him to his destination, so it is necessary that we simply trust in the power of Jesus to justify us before God.
Father, give me the grace to rest in You.
