No Darkness At All
1 John 1.5

5
"This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all”

Last year a preacher friend was blacked out for 12 days because of a severe ice storm. He asked his wife to say in three words what darkness meant to her. She didn’t need sentences, only words: “Trouble! Trouble! Trouble!” She meant no heat, no water, no lights, spoiled food in the freezer, and not even gasoline at the pumps – trouble!

But where God is, there is no blackout. He gave light of another kind – light of a loving son and daughter-in-law, who worked in the darkness and cold to inventory spoiled food and do other things to care for aging parents. He also gave light through members of an interim pastorate the preacher was temporarily serving. A warm parsonage generously furnished and opened to him; meals with members; dozens of expressions of kindness from people who knew, “Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these” (Matt. 25:40). The pastor and his wife never felt so loved! Though they were without electricity, they never lacked for light or warmth because the love of God was all around them.

Lord, help me to share Your light and warmth with others.
