The Bread of Life

Read the Bible through:
AM –
1 Samuel 22-23 : PM – Luke 9:18-45

Bread from Heaven
John 6:28-31

31 "Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"

The news was not what they expected. His wife’s breast cancer had returned. After 16 years of remission, it had spread. The first Sunday back from Houston they found themselves in a restaurant discussing how they were going to deal with this news. As they finished their meal, they asked for the check. The waitress handed him a guest check with these words written one it: “What a mighty God we serve. God bless and happy Easter!” They looked for the couple who met their need, but they had already departed. They were humbled and grateful. This was a confirmation God was in control.

The waitress informed them that their meal was paid for. In the midst of any desert experience, we can turn our eyes and hearts to the only One who gives life. Manna was given to the Israelites as a daily reminder of God’s provision. Total dependence is the cure for a self-satisfied life. When God touches a life, brings a light surprise, or answers prayer, grateful thoughts should turn to Him.

Lord, I depend on You.
