Establishing Godly Standards for My Family

Read the Bible through:
AM –
2 Samuel 3-4 : PM – Luke 11:29-54

Obedience
Jeremiah 35:12-17

16 "Surely the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them, but this people has not obeyed Me.”

I have seen it happen so many times. Little children running ahead of mother or father and stumbling to the pavement. They were told to hold their parent’s hand, and they could help them not to fall. But they would not listen. They would run off again, stumble and fall again.

The people of Judah, unlike the obedient Rechabites, habitually pulled away from the commands of God. They refused to listen. They ran off to do their own thing. Idolatry became so ingrained they couldn’t distinguish between true and false worship. God called to them time and again; but they never wholeheartedly took His hand saying, “God is right!”

The Rechabites were more obedient to the Lord than were the people of Judah. Not to listen was not an option for them.

Lord, sensitize me so, as with the Rechabites, listening to You and obeying is my only option.
