Praying with Humility

Read the Bible through:
AM –
Joshua 21-22 : PM – Mark 15:40-47

Humbling Oneself
Luke 18:14

14 "I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted"

The Bible makes several references to our being humble. Jesus was the ultimate example as ‘he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death” (Phil. 2:8). We are humble through our obedience to Christ. As we become humble before God, He justifies us, putting us in line with His will.

A missionary, living in another culture, learns to be humble before others who know the culture, the ways, and the language. Being a foreigner, he does not have the answers for them, but can help to be a catalyst of change. This cannot come about without humility before others and realizing he cannot do anything without the nationals in the area, their knowledge, and their experience.

Similarly, we humble ourselves before God. We can do nothing without Him.

Help me, exalted Creator, to come before You humbly, not for a reward of being exalted, but because I cannot haughtily enter into Your majestic presence.
