BY JOINING GOD’S HOST
Joshua 5:13-15

14
“So He said, ‘No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.’ And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, ‘What does my Lord say to His servant?’”

During the Olympics in Sydney, a novice swimmer from Africa discovered what it meant to join the host of world-class athletes. In a heat, the other two contestants were eliminated due to false starts. Spectators had seen the best swimmers in the world, but at this moment all eyes were fixed on this athlete as he struggled to complete the event.

This was the longest distance this competitor had ever attempted. The cheers from the crowd turned to a deafening roar as he approached the finish of the race. He was helped from the pool, and to hear the crowd you would have thought he had just won the gold medal. In reality what he heard was the sound of the crowd applauding the tenacious struggle for survival. In that defining moment, the athlete learned what it meant to join a host of champions.

Joshua’s arrival at Jericho was to be one of the defining moments in his lifetime. He removed his sandals; he knew he was standing on holy ground.

Lord, help me stand strong in my defining moments.
