Revealing God’s Works
John 9:1-7
3 "Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him."
Deep in Mammoth Cave one day, our tour guide announced he was going to demonstrate the complete absence of light. He warned it might be a bit frightening. He flipped a switch. Total darkness was almost overwhelming. I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Out of the darkness came the frightened whimper of a little girl. Instantly there came the reassuring voice of her brave, big brother: “Don’t be afraid, Sis. There’s someone down here who can turn the light on!”
When Jesus opened the eyes of the man born blind, He declared this poor man’s condition was neither caused by his sin nor that of his parents (a common belief of His day), but to give evidence there’s always One who can turn the light on for these who believe.
Oh Lord, keep us reminded that even our afflictions afford opportunities to prove Your power and your loving compassion.
