About Jesus’ Authority
John 5:24-30

24
“Verily, verily I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life”

One of my favorite TV Shows is the Bill Cosby show. On that show when the kids questioned his authority, he settled the matter quickly and simply. He just said, “Because I said so, that is why.”

Jesus empowered His strong assertions by beginning them with words transliterated as “amen, amen” (also translated as “verily, verily” and truly, truly”). Amen means “surely” in both Hebrew and Greek. The doubled “amen” meant most assuredly. No others in the gospel story used this authoritative expression. Nor did any others have Jesus’ kind of authority. He had come from the Father!

We see all of Jesus’ words as authoritative whether they are simply or strongly spoken. We see them in that way not only because of His works long ago, but we view them that way because of what he has done in our own lives.

Thank you, Lord, for the loving authority I have seen in You as my Savior
