Worshiping God

WITH GLADNESS
Psalm 100:1-2

2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.

Singing and gladness are hallmarks of genuine worship. Ideally, the two are intermingled. Gladness produces singing, Singing can cause people to experience gladness. Also, service to God and His people originates in a glad heart. The old idea of singing while you work has no more noble a setting than when the work is God’s work.

Worship styles are a matter of debate. One church may be the model of order and polish. Every part of its worship appears carefully planned. The printed order of worship flows like clockwork. People can set their watches by the length of the pastor’s sermons. Another church lacks smoothness; and at times its worship order appears spontaneous. If not ragged. In either style of worship, countenances can glow as people express joy of the Lord. Why? Because gladness is a matter of the heart. And God’s people can express gladness in any worship style.

Create in me a glad heart, O Lord, and let it rub off on others.
