Not Trusting in Self

We often find ourselves putting others in the place of the Pharisees. But in doing so, we become self-righteousness. We do the same as that which we would accuse others of doing. The Bible speaks directly to them, but it is also aimed directly at us.
Anytime we are trusting solely in ourselves, we are not trusting in God. We like to think we are capable of many things. The American culture teaches us to be independent. But as Christians we do not have independence, but rather dependence on God. Without Him we can do nothing, and we are nothing. He gives us our every breath, every crumb, and every drop. When we see Him as the Great Provider, we will not view others with contempt. We will rather be humble before God and others and will desire to help others.
As we trust less in ourselves and more in God, He can bring order and purpose to our lives.
Lord, develop my dependence on You so that I totally rely on You in all circumstances.
