A mother called up the stairway, “Who are you talking to?” She heard her teenage son’s voice and suspected unauthorized cell phone use. Her son yelled back he wasn’t talking to anyone. The mother repeated her query. This time her son replied that He was talking to himself. Supersleuth Mom was really suspicious now.
After a few more rounds of interrogation combating denial, evasion, and downright lying, the son dug his hole deeper. Oh yeah, his girlfriend just happened to call him. But mom showed him the call record on his cell phone: one outgoing to Jamie. The boy became remorseful and asked for forgiveness. The mother gave him a hug and reminded him his cell phone was for emergencies and family communication; the home phone was for social calling.
Sometimes we think we can get away with sin. But just as this mother understood her son and pointed out the error of his ways, God understands us; and His Word reveals our sin and His desire to cleanse us from it.
Lord, reveal the sin in my life. Forgive and cleanse me.
