Mrs. Springer was one of those rare teachers who made her students feel Chaucer and Shakespeare were old friends of hers. She had a remarkable ability to weave lessons of life into seemingly uninteresting passages. When she read Shakespeare’s plays to us, she would stop at surprising places and, very subtly, quote verses of Scripture and make applications to our everyday living. Today, a half-century later, I still cherish many of those pearls of wisdom.
Teaching was a major part of the prophet Jeremiah’s divine calling. He had an outstanding secretary whose name was Baruch. He took the scroll of Jeremiah’s sermons and read publicly to the people. The people were moved to proclaim a fast so they could concentrate completely on God’s message. We thank God for those whom God has gifted to teach His Word to us.
Father, help me to be receptive to teachers of Your Word
