I find it hard to follow a private exercise regimen. How can we strengthen ourselves spiritually? Why, together! We do so every time we gather to worship and study. In that dedicated group we learn how to trust, serve, and imitate our Christ. And we leave each learning experience more able to meet and overcome problems that disturb the Christian atmosphere of our homes.
As a boy smaller than the others, I was impressed with Charles Atlas’ method of dynamic tension in exercising. Cartoons showed how the 97 pound weakling finally overcame the smart aleck who liked to kick sand into the weaklings’ faces. Atlas’ method was tough to use alone. But in sweet church relationships, exercising together, we make commitments that pay off. Using the strength we develop together in worship and study, we can put that bully down.
Lord, help me worship and learn in my church so I can cease bad attitudes that “kick sand” into my family’s eyes.
