We must be careful as we read our key verses today. We might take them as urging us to leave the real world and live sad and monotonous lives. Far to the contrary, Paul’s writings indicate that we are free of binding rules and regulations.
Paul’s plea instead was that his readers should leave behind them the actions and attitudes that are destructive to physical joy and human usefulness. None of those that Paul placed outside our Christian parameters can possibly make life either better or longer. Indeed, they all contribute to unhappiness uselessness, and brevity of life.
“Are we having fun yet?” is a question no practicing Christian ever has to ask. Visit our Spring Valley Baptist Church Men’s Breakfast just once and you’ll be convinced this is so. You’ll never meet a happier bunch. But we do try to follow Paul’s admonition here. We just enjoy serving Christ together, and we never have hangovers.
Thank You, Lord, for guiding me into joyful living.
