Paul made a wise choice in selecting Timothy “to go forth with him” (3). Timothy had grown up in a Gentile area. And his father was a Gentile. Thus Timothy came to know the Greek language and understand the non-Jewish culture Paul had been called to evangelize. Timothy understood the real world. He could respect the past without despising the present. He could cling to the worthy aspects of Jewish traditions without being blinded to gospel truths. He understood that people without the gospel needed Jesus.
Today’s children should be helped to understand the needs of a changing world as well as to understand the wideness of God’s love.
Lord, help me show in all my actions that I know You love everyone
