Though it has always been part of the process, many of us have become even more aware in recent years of political patronage – the practice of rewarding those who were faithful in the fight when victory is finally won. Faithfulness has a reward.
Joshua and Caleb were faithful to God. Their reward was that they did not die in the wilderness along with the others of that generation, but continued to live. They did not go on the spying mission so they would receive a reward from God. They went because they believed God was sending them and they wanted to be obedient to Him. They were obedient because they had already been blessed by God when He brought them out of bondage. You and I owe obedience to God because of His great gift of salvation and the many other ways He demonstrates His love to us.
Father, I offer You my obedience because You have already given me the reward.
