Christmas wasn’t placed on the Christian calendar for more than two centuries after the birth of Christ. The dates of deaths were important back then, but the time of birth didn’t really matter all that much.
God’s timing, on the other hand, mattered immensely. When the “fullness of time” came, everything was in place on the stage of human history.
The universal use of the Greek language, the magnificent Roman roads and protected sea lanes, the famous Pax Romana that introduced and era of peace – all this would speed God’s messengers on their way with the good news that the Redeemer had visited our planet.
The date of Christmas isn’t as important as the reason for Christmas. “God sent forth his Son.” Now, that’s something to celebrate!
Thank You for the gladness of this season, Lord, and for the reality of redemption.
