Working with the Lord
Acts 16:11-15

14
"Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul."

The Ekpeye village, just across the river from Joinkrama Baptist Hospital, had a preaching point; but there were not enough Christians to establish a church. A man from the village made a profession of faith in Christ and came to the inquirer’s class. He seemed to have a lot of ability and began to lead the services at the preaching point. However, he became involved in the social life of the village and took a second wife.

Another man from the same village made a profession of faith at the hospital and burned his “juju.” That is, he destroyed all the paraphernalia related to his old pagan religion. However, he was not able to become the leader of a church. Sometimes it is very hard to find a leader who can open his or her home to start a church.

Lord, thank You for Lydia, Paul’s first European convert; and thank You for first converts everywhere. I pray that Your Spirit may strengthen them in difficult circumstances.
